One extra rule to add to this fine list:
Don't be ashamed to learn from your students. This rule is in particular of value when teaching gradute students: some of them may be more updated than you on some topics discussed in class.

Thanks David for your posting. The more open you can be, the better. And that would include listening to people who know more than you, even if these people turn out to be your students! Well, I'd say that would make Rules 5 and 6 even easier to follow, wouldn't you? Particularly when thinking about recruiting students to your lab.
